Export: definition, interest and importance for PIM
Export is the process of extracting data from the PIM in the form of a file. An export may concern all or part of the PIM data, such as products, media, templates, etc.
What is an export in a PIM
Export refers to the process of extracting data from a PIM Product Information Management) system to a structured file, intended to feed distribution channels such as an e-commerce site, a marketplace, or a printed catalog.
This mechanism allows you to select all or part of the product information (attributes, media, classifications, etc.) and format it according to standards adapted to each target: CSV, XML, JSON, or even formats specific to platforms such as Amazon, Google Shopping, or Shopify. For example, an export can be configured to transmit only products in stock, with their multilingual descriptions and high-resolution images, in order to optimize their visibility on a marketplace.
Export is a key link in the omnichannel strategy: it ensures that product data is up to date, consistent, and adapted to the technical requirements of each channel. By automating this process, PIM the risk of errors, speeds up time-to-market, and improves the customer experience, while freeing teams from repetitive manual tasks.
