Attribute sets: definition and examples with PIM
Field sets and attribute sets enable a single document type to be used for several product types, and to be customized.
What is an attribute set in a PIM
An attribute set is a set of customizable fields that allows you to adapt the structure of the same type of product document to specific needs, depending on the product category or family. It offers essential flexibility for managing a variety of products within the same PIM Product Information Management) system, without multiplying data models.
For example, a generic document type such as "Color Reference" can be used for both a red sweater and a black shoe. However, the attributes needed to describe these products differ: a sweater will require fields such as "material," "size," or "care," while a shoe will require information about the "sole type," "size," or "material." Attribute sets allow you to configure these fields dynamically, depending on the product in question.
This approach simplifies catalog management and improves data quality. By centralizing information in the PIM, teams gain efficiency while ensuring that each product has the relevant attributes for listing and distribution across sales channels.
